Rolling
Soil rollers are used immediately after sowing to gain a small yield bonus; grass rollers have a different purpose.
Soil rolling after seeding
Use a soil roller immediately after sowing/planting while the field is in the freshly sown state. Rolling gives the small 2.5% yield bonus and can push small stones back into the soil.
Grass rolling is different
A grass roller is used on grassland after cutting to improve/reset the grass for the next growth cycle. Do not confuse this with the arable soil roller used after seeding.
Procedure
- Finish sowing/planting first.
- Attach a soil roller with suitable tractor power.
- Start before the crop advances out of the freshly sown state.
- Roll the entire seeded area in overlapping passes.
- Confirm the rolled state/bonus has been applied.
