Grass

Grass supports hay, silage and animal-feed workflows and regrows after cutting.

Mow

Cut mature grass with a mower. A wide mower or self-propelled mower increases throughput on large areas.

Choose the output

Pick up grass directly for fresh feed/silage, ted it into hay, or bale it. Windrowing is optional but speeds collection by concentrating material.

Regrowth

After collection, a grass roller can reset/prepare the field and give a fertilisation stage. Grass normally needs only one fertilisation stage.

Procedure

  1. Mow only after grass has reached a useful growth stage.
  2. For fresh grass, windrow if desired and collect with a forage wagon/baler.
  3. For hay, ted the cut grass first, then windrow and collect/bale.
  4. For silage, wrap compatible grass bales or put loose grass/chaff through a bunker/fermentation route.
  5. After cutting, roll/fertilise grass as appropriate so the next growth cycle starts efficiently.

Equipment & tools

Open an equipment page for what the machine does, how to set it up and how to operate it.

Alternative options

Loose grass/hay
Use a forage wagon for fast pickup and bulk transport.
Bales
Bale for compact handling; wrap grass bales to make silage.
Forage harvester
Use pickup/grass headers in large forage operations where compatible.

Practical tips

  • Regrows after cutting; practical cutting depends on growth stage.
