Ploughing Requirement

Use ploughing when the field requires it; otherwise choose a faster seedbed method.

When it is required

The field information tells you when a ploughing requirement exists. Root/deep-root crop cycles commonly trigger it. If the state is not present, ploughing is optional and a lighter cultivation route is faster.

Working method

Ploughs turn a narrow strip of soil and can require significant tractor power. Work long straight passes and use the implement orientation/offset so adjacent furrows meet cleanly. Headlands are easiest when left until the main field body is finished.

Procedure

  1. Inspect the field for a ploughing requirement.
  2. Select a plough/subsoiler that meets the requirement and tractor power.
  3. Set up ballast/tyres for traction.
  4. Start along a straight edge and work consistent parallel passes.
  5. Lift/turn at the headland, align the next pass and lower again.
  6. Finish headlands and missed wedges.
  7. Continue with seedbed preparation or a compatible planting pass.
